If you live in the south side of Chicago near 95th and Western you’ve probably attended the traditional marching of the Chicago’s South Side Irish Parade.  The parade which had been a long time standing tradition for over 30 years was cancelled in 2009 due to “over a dozen officers being assaulted and over 54 people arrested, and more than 300,000 people crammed in over 24 blocks stretch” as reported in the Chicago Tribune. But officials have announced the SOUTH SIDE IRISH PARADE IS BACK ON!

In the last three years the parade has not taken place and it’s put a real downer on the neighborhood as well as many family’s who attend the parade for the excitement of seeing friends and family marching as well as to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day holiday.   It’s going to be awful hard to hold back the excitement of the neighborhood as well as the surrounding one’s.  Since the official announcement yesterday on the ChicagoSun-Times.com  I’ve hardly been able to contain my excitement. The news is spreading like wild fire with Facebook, and texting.  Familys will once again be able to gather together and watch a traditional St. Paddy’s Day South Side Irish Parade.

I do want to send caution out to all the drinkin’ fools who attended in previous years. Your drinking will not be tolerated.  The committee men for the Irish parade says there will be ZERO Tolerance.  There is a private security firm that has been hired and will be monitoring the parade for alcohol use.   All colors and bags will be checked for alcohol. This year it will be a alcohol free parade!

Dig out your green pants, Your Kiss me I’m Irish T-shirts and your St. Patty’s Day Hats and Mark your calendars for Sunday, March 11, 2012  People cause there’s about to be a celebration.  Gather the family together and meet on Western for some good old fashion “Safe” Family Fun.

It’s also been reported that this will be a trial run and depending on how well it goes this year if it will return in 2013! So be on your best behavior folks and let’s try to have some fun. Save the alcohol for after when you back home safe in your own back yard.  Hope to see you there.

Disclosure: No compensation for writing this post unless you count my excitement for the return of the Parade. Yippeee!!
